One of the pleasures of vicarious travel is the freedom to let your mind wander, even when a trip is not on the cards right now. A good travel programme can introduce you to unfamiliar places, bring back memories and inspire journeys you may one day take.

Joanna Lumley’s Greek Odyssey does all three. With her warmth and genuine curiosity, she brings Greece’s history, culture and people to life—making this an fabulous way to revisit the country or discover it for the first time.

Recommendation
An accessory worthy of an odyssey

A good hat is one of the simplest ways to stay comfortable while sightseeing, sitting at a café or spending a day by the sea. For a trip to Greece or similar, I would travel with a packable, wide-brimmed straw Panama hat like this one—it looks good, provides plenty of shade and fits easily into your luggage.

Before you depart

Travel is a pleasure, even when we experience it from the sofa. Joanna Lumley makes an excellent guide—curious, warm and always entertaining. And if she inspires a Greek adventure of your own, don’t forget the hat.

Johann
